Type Locality and Naming

The type section is in roadcuts of the Xainza-Xiongmei Highways east of Riajue Hill in Xainza, Xizang. The Xiongmei Fm was named by Chen Ting'en (1986a).

Synonym: (雄梅组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is purple and minor brownish yellow limestone with argillaceous bands or subaqueous shrinkage laminations. In the type area, the Xiongmei Fm recorded an incomplete thickness of 146 m.

Lower contact

With a covered lower boundary.

It is conformably overlain by the Gangmusang Fm

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit yields abundant nautiloids, including Richardsonoceraides-Lituites assemblage, Michelinoceras paraelongatus-Sinoceras chinense eqiseptatum assemblage and Richardsonoceras-Trocholites depressus assemblage, in ascending order (Chen, 1986a), and can be correlated with the Baota Fm in the Yangtze province and the Datianba Fm.
